Hex: Shards of Fate [official site] has been out and playable in multiplayer for some time, but its singleplayer mode – planned since its 2013 Kickstarter – is only now beginning to see the light of day. The first in-game footage of the trading card game’s PvE mode is below.
There’s a scene in the new Far Cry Primal [official site] trailer in which the player character instructs his pet owl to eat someone’s face. It’s amazing how inconsequential the lack of vehicles and rocket launchers seems now that the full extent of the animal-taming can be seen. Feed wild beasts and they can be tamed, which leads to big cat snuggling, guard bears and tiger ridin’. Given that sniping the locks off animal cages was my favourite way to take out a baseload of baddies in Far Cry 3, Primal suddenly looks very tasty indeed.
Now that Telltale have wrapped up the first series of Tales From the Borderlands and Game of Thrones, it’s time to show a little more of what’s coming next. Last night they announced a Batman series, but also showed off something sooner. A wee trailer for The Walking Dead: Michonne [official site] shows that the three-episode miniseries, which fills in the story during a gap in the comics, will start in February 2016. Oh, and Michonne won’t be voiced by her TV actor, but is having words put in her mouth by the excellent Samira Wiley – Poussey from Orange Is the New Black.
Metroidvania techno-thriller Shadow Complex [official site] debuted downloadable on Xbox 360 in 2009, and folks have been asking for a PC release ever since. It was pretty good fun, see, doing all that ‘run and jump and climb shoot and find items to get into new places to find items to get into new places’ stuff, all shiny and polished like. But a PC release never seemed forthcoming, until last night. Shadow Complex has arrived in ‘Remastered’ form and is free to download right now.
Telltale are making a Batman game. Take a trip to Crime Alley and other Gotham hotspots in the brief teaser below.
I got an email about Round Table’s first game, Deal With The Devil, which they’re developing in partnership with Antimatter Games. According to the press info blast they’re aiming to “bridge the gap between narrative-driven experience and first-person horror”.
There’s mention of the roaring twenties, eldritch horrors, Art Deco glamour and ancient, forbidden places in the press release – things which promise much but until you see them in play you (or at least I) tend to be a little wary. In search of a bit more detail I emailed studio co-founder Rich Barham to ask a few questions, particularly on the subject of protagonist Amelia Woods…
Remember back in 2012 when Notch was like, “I could fund a Psychonauts 2!” and Double Fine were all, “Cool! $18m please!” and Notch was all, “Shiiiit, I was thinking more 25p, and – wow, look, an octopus on a tricycle!”? Well, that’s all history now.
Double Fine are looking to make Psychonauts 2. They’re after $3.3m from backers, alongside their own investment, plus external funding from a mysterious, possibly legal party. More Psychonauts! There’s a trailer too, of sorts.
