Yakuza 0 out now, finally bringing the series to PC

Sega’s fab brawl-o-RPG series Yakuza today finally makes its official debut on PC, after over a decade exclusive to PlayStations, with the launch of Yakuza 0. It’s the story of two soon-to-be-legendary gangsters in 1988’s Tokyo and Osaka, who talk in serious tones and have mastered the art of whipping off their shirt and jacket in one movement when it’s time to rumble. Also they’re huge goofballs who sing karaoke, bodyslam bicycles onto punks, have dance-offs, win toys for children, race Scalextric, and get real into telephone dating. Good times. Edwin Evans-Thirlwell give it a big thumbs-up in our Yakuza 0 review last week, and now the game’s actually out. Watch the launch trailer below.

Nvidia are definitely up to something at Gamescom

Nvidia have confirmed that something is definitely going down at this year’s Gamescom. We don’t know what yet – it could finally be the proper reveal of the company’s next-gen Nvidia Turing graphics cards, for instance, or maybe a deep dive into their upcoming Big Format Gaming Displays (or BFG Displays, for short), or something else entirely. We just don’t know. What we do know, though, is that it’s all going to be kicking off on Monday August 20 at their GeForce Gaming Celebration event. Read on for all the deets.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds casting dynamic weather across older maps

After seven months of digital drought, the rains will finally return to Erangel in the next Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds patch. Now live on the test server and due on the main client soon, update #19 adds variants of both Erangel and Miramar with the dynamic ‘overcast’ weather which drifts between cloud, fog, and rain. I’m so happy to see that return–and spread–after they were pulled for December’s v1.0 launch. The patch will also bring long-awaited features including bullets penetrating flimsy forearms, the ability to add a map marker on the point you’re looking at, and better colourblind options. But most importantly, rain and fog!

Regular Human Basketball whirrs out

Ahh basketball, noblest of sports. Is there a more blessed sight than that of a regular human rocketing through the air? A more magnificent act than the perfectly timed activation of a magnet, a more majestic occurrence than a player toppling to the ground atop their retractable legs?

There is not. The expanded Steam version of Regular Human Basketball just came out, and offers some of the most fun you can have with your perfectly normal human pals. A prototype has been out since 2015 and the core of the game remains unchanged – except now there’s online multiplayer, which I’m hoping will propel it to the popularity it deserves.

The Long Dark episode 3 howling into December

The third episode of snowy survival sandbox The Long Dark‘s story campaign is due to launch in December, developers Hinterland Studio announced last night, alongside revamped versions of its first two. Hinterland are making the opening chapters less linear, see, to reflect the planned structure of episode 3 – and address some criticism. Our episode 2 review in particular took issue with the linear quest structure forced on sandbox survival, which still felt needlessly like a tutorial – and often an irritating tutorial. So roll on December, bring the snow and the howl, make this whole game deep and crisp and even.

Loot a multiverse’s worth of junk in Jazztronauts for Garry’s Mod

Jazztronauts is a mod about how mods are made. In this clever meta-modification for Garry’s Mod, you (and optionally your pals) go on scavenger hunts through the 15,000+ maps already on the Steam Workshop. You’re hunting for glowing crystals while stealing everything else (from chairs to wall textures) to sell for cash to spend on persistent upgrades, then escaping in a wall-smashing cosmic bus. Jazztronauts is out now, and you’ll need Garry’s Mod (plus some extras) to play.
