Resident Evil 4 HD mod releases Castle overhaul

The Resident Evil 4 HD Project [official site], a hugely impressive fan project painstankingly prettying-up Capcom’s classic spooky shooter, has released its overhaul of the Castle chapter. Unlike many ‘HD’ mods, this one is so faithful to the original look that the makers even track down Spanish buildings that Capcom had photographed for texture bases. It’s a cracking update to a smashing game. The modders haven’t finished overhauling the whole game yet, so they’re releasing it chapter-by-chapter. Here, check out how much nicer the castle looks: … [visit site to read more]

The Sunday Papers

Sundays are for recuperating after three days of seeing people and games at Rezzed (and travelling to London with a baby). Now that we’re back home, let’s do some relaxing reading. About videogames, of course.

Jalopy is an interesting, early access road trip game set in eastern europe. It is not the kind of thing which sells huge numbers of copies, but that doesn’t stop people expecting the moon. Here’s the developer explaining calmly why the moon is not possible. It is important to remember these things. … [visit site to read more]

Fhtagn motion video: The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker coming May

It’s ’90s a go-go these days with new trashy first-person shooters, Infinity Engine-style RPGs, and adventure games from genre giants, but to me the epitome of the ’90s revival is these new FMV games. I’ve not had a disc drive in years but I can almost hear one spin up when I look at Contradiction, The Bunker, Late Shift, Her Story, or, right now, The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker [official site]. Due in May, it’s a “Lovecraftian” FMV murder mystery about a psychiatrist treating/interrogating patients/suspects to uncover who murdered their predecessor, the eponymous Doctor Dekker. Observe: … [visit site to read more]

Knuckle Sandwich looks like a suitably daft RPG

Turn-based RPG Knuckle Sandwich [official site] turned up in our inbox this week and it looks like some hot nonsense. It’s about a boy who moves to a new town and starts working a crappy job serving burgers. Until you get drawn into some sort of cult mystery, of course. Couldn’t fight monsters without some cult mystery! You can see some of said monsters in the trailer below, such as bees, oozers and (most terrifying of all) “fibreghosts”.

Free Loaders: Rebuild your childhood with Tracks

We got our April Fool’s japes in early with a FAKE NEWS special last week, so we’ll be regressing back to reality now. Just pull that lever for me will you? That’s it. Oh no! You’ve regressed us too far! We’re back in reality all right, but now we’re all toddlers and we’re surrounded by wooden train tracks. Wooden train tracks as far as the eye can see! How do you always manage to get us into this kind of mess?

What are we all playing this weekend?

Happy April Fool’s Day! Or is it? It is, and you can tell by how video game studios are demonstrating their truly rubbish sense of humour. Luckily for us, April Fool’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, which means few people are around to receive their awful e-mails. Unfortunately, I am working today, so me, I’m here, I’m reading these. Don’t worry, I’ll try to protect you.

What are you playing this weekend? Here’s what we’re clicking on. … [visit site to read more]
