Double Dragon 4 starts biffing later this month

Arc System Works are making a new retro-styled Double Dragon beat ’em up, even rounding up some of the original DD gang to chip in. Double Dragon IV [official site] will hit later this month and…. huh! What a curious bit of news. This NES-lookin’ throwdown is certainly the opposite of Double Dragon: Neon, the radtacular cowabungical modern revival by WayForward. Arc were nothing to do with Neon, mind, as they picked up the rights to Double Dragon only in 2015. Seems they fancied making some real old-school Double Dragon. Huh! Weird. … [visit site to read more]

Overwatch gets new Oasis map, plus Roadhog hook fixes

Overwatch [official site] aka The Shooter You Watch From Afar With An Increasingly Disturbing Intensity, has got a new map, the high-tech paradise city of Oasis. The map has been in public testing for a while but it went into the full-fat game yesterday. You can see how shiny and new it looks in a trailer below. In other news, tanky hero Roadhog will be soon getting his slightly-broken hook ability fixed, says one of the game’s designers.

Donut County dev unleashes Furby horror in Tattletail

A horror game putting me in a room with a Furby would be spooky enough for me; those things are terrifying. Force me to care for a Furby while also avoiding the wrath of its bloodthirsty mamabot and no, no thank you, no, that’s kind but no, no thank you. You, however, may be interested in Tattletail [Steam page]. It’s a first-person horror game set around Christmas 1998, starring a small child playing with the year’s hottest toy when bad things happen. It was released a few days after Christmas, fittingly, by a small team including Ben Esposito of Donut County and Arcane Kids fame. Here, watch its old television commercial: … [visit site to read more]

Zelda-ish adventure platformer Rime now coming to PC

The boy adventurer of sunny platformer Rime [official site] will be coming to PC, says a new trailer. The very blue skies and also-very-blue seas were first revealed at Gamescom in 2013, whereupon we exhaled a sigh of sad exhaustion at the big sign plastered over it saying “PlayStation exclusive”. But following some rights wrangling last year, developer Tequila Works will be bringing it to us as well. We know because IGN pooped out a new trailer with the Steam logo on it. It’s down here.

Frog Fractions 2 hatches from Glittermitten Grove

The elusive Frog Fractions 2 snuck out while over the RPS Crimble holiday, hidden inside a colourful game about building a faerie village and locked away behind a sprawling ARG. Frog Fractions 2 could never be as surprising as the first game, given that y’know we now have heard of Frog Fractions, but it seems to have made a fair go of replacing surprise with epicness. Epicity? Epicicity? That thing. Once again, FF leaps wildly between genres on a wild adventure hidden within something innocuous. This time, your way in is to buy the sparkly-named Glittermitten Grove [official site]. … [visit site to read more]

Steam Top 100 reveals 2016’s money-making Steamers

Valve capped off 2016 by revealing the year’s 100 highest-grossing games on Steam, which is a pretty interesting list. If you’ve been following Alec’s prolonged breakdown over the weekly charts you’ll not be shocked by revelations that Grand Theft Auto V and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are near the top, but you might not expect them to be joined by the likes of No Man’s Sky or the free-to-play Dota 2.

When I asked Alec if he fancied writing up this chart too, he began hissing “The Venga Bus is coming the Venga Bus IS coming the Venga Bus is coming to take me away ho-ho hee-hee ha-haaa” so you get me and my GIFs instead. … [visit site to read more]

ModDB’s Mod of the Year winner announced

If I was a betting man, I’d have put money on Enderal, the vast Skyrim total conversion, winning the public vote for ModDB‘s mod of the year. That I’d have lost all that money is why I’m not a betting man. Enderal came second behind Stalker: Call of Chernobyl, a similarly vast total conversion for the enduring Stalker: Call of Pripyat. … [visit site to read more]
