No Man’s Sky getting another small bugfixing patch

No Man’s Sky [official site] received its first major content update this past weekend, adding base building, farming and more to the maligned procedural space sim. Before that however there had been a bunch of smaller bugfixing patches release for the game – nine, I think? – and now it’s receiving yet another. The small patch is currently available on the game’s experimental branch and fixes a bunch of bugs that have been reported since the last update. Find the patch notes below.

Drone Swarm is about controlling 32,000 units at once

Wow. It’s not often a game impresses me with graphics or technology anymore, but Drone Swarm [official site] is immediately a thrill just to look at. It’s a space-set singleplayer RTS in which you control a swarm of 32,000 drones. You click to direct them and they swirl as an undulating mass, each little ship individually simulated. You must watch the 11 minutes of video below, which shows exactly what you can do with such a swarm.

MOBA Gigantic moves into open beta on 8 December

Gigantic

I was about to just use the lyrics to Gigantic by the Pixies as the intro to this post but then I remembered what they actually are and what they mean so the whole thing got a bit NSFW. Instead, here is the game news: Motiga’s 5v5 third-person MOBA, Gigantic [official site], is going into open beta from 8 December on Windows 10 and Xbone. I assume this is to take advantage of people taking various days off for the holiday season and perhaps looking for something new to play. … [visit site to read more]

Dishonored 2 patch 1.3 hits Steam beta

Dishonored 2

There’s a – oh no! I just dropped a big toast crumb into my keyboard and the number four is now unavailable to me! Let’s start again and I’ll deal with that in a moment. There’s a Dishonored 2 PC patch currently being tested on the beta branch of the game in Steam which is aiming to help with the performance issues some PC players have been reporting. This is just a housekeeping patch so no sign of a mission select option for now. … [visit site to read more]

Tenebra is a free horror game inspired by silent films

When I dig through my inbox, one opening line that’s almost certainly going to grab my attention is a variation of: “I see you’re a fan of horror games…well, look at this.” The developer of Tenebra [official site], a free chiller created in Source, sent one such email. It plays a little like Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture if Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture were set in a series of monochrome environments that are equal parts Inside and Silent Hill. I quite like it, even if I do keep getting lost in the shadows.

One Hour One Life: Rohrer riffs on cyclical survival

One Hour One Life
In one of those strange “thinking about a person and then they phone you for a chat” moments, I was wondering what Jason Rohrer might be up to earlier this week. It’s because his MMO burglary/home defence game The Castle Doctrine pops into my head from time to time. So obviously I then get an email saying “Hello, here is the trailer for my new game” from Jason Rohrer. It’s called One Hour One Life [official site] and is billed as a multiplayer online survival game by Rohrer and Tom Bailey. Let’s take a peek.

[Warning: NSFW because cartoon nudity. That said, I work in a job where cartoon nudity is fine so I guess the warning should be not safe for work if your work doesn’t like this sort of thing. NSFWIYWDLTSOT.] … [visit site to read more]
