New Vampyr Details From Life Is Strange Developer

Although announced prior to the start of episodic adventure Life Is Strange earlier this year, Vampyr [official site] was thereafter resigned to the shadows cast by its Spanish flu-ridden early 20th century London cityscape setting. Developers DONTNOD Entertainment have only now revealed more about their upcoming vampire-infused action RPG.

Morrowind Overhaul OpenMW Gets New Graphics Engine

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind [official site] was released in 2002. It’s testament to how highly regarded the now 13-year-old game is that folks are still determined to keep it alive. OpenMW is one such effort: an open source “engine re-implementation” of Morrowind. It’s still some ways from being finished, but the released build has just received an extensive update.

Loot Drop: Warhammer Vermintide Free DLC

Warhammer End Times: Vermintide [official site] is an enjoyable fantasy throwdown, easy to describe as Left 4 Dead with Skaven, but with a loot and upgrade system that brings some RPG trappings to the four-player cooperative vermin extermination. One of the main complaints that I heard repeatedly when playing the game prior to my review related to the game’s indiscriminate loot drops. Play as a bright wizard and you might find equipment that only a dwarf ranger can use, or vice versa. The free Sigmar’s Blessing update, released today, allows you to tip the odds in favour of your chosen class, as well as adding an entire new tier of veteran loot.

Skullgirls Follow-Up Indivisible Secures $3.6 Million

Skullgirls creators Lab Zero have successfully raised a whopping $1.5m for their action RPG, Indivisible. $1.6m even, with a couple of days left to see that grow even taller. $3.6m even, with the now-secured publisher funding too. Enough money, it seems, for the characters to afford clothes this time out.

Hurrah! Loading Screen Minigame Patent Expires

This is delightful: Namco’s patent on playable minigames while you wait for the main game to load has expired, meaning we’re almost certainly going to see a whole lot more of that kind of thing in the coming years. Imagine a Fallout 4 in which you could play Missile Command while it booted up, rather than stare at a stationary Deathclaw statue for the four thousandth time. Play Doom 1 while nu-Doom loads. Actual inventory Tetris while the Witcher 3 lumbers into being.

Scrap Mechanic Adds Animating Meccano-Style Gadget

Scrap Mechanic [official site] is a multiplayer survival sandbox game about machine-building, crafting and pegging it from angry automatons. Since we last poked our head into its inner workings, it’s announced plans to shift from Greenlight to Early Access on January 20 2016, and has also introduced the Controller – a nifty gadget that lets you give objects instructions on how to move transform in a set sequence. It’d let you make Transformers. Come see below.

Just Cause 3’s Patch Will Take “A Little Bit Of Time”

I’ve no doubt that Avalanche and Square Enix are well aware of what happened to Warner with Batman: Arkham Knight, which is why they’re taking a chummier approach to launch issues with Just Cause 3. The open world being-a-cool-guy sequel is beleaguered by visual glitches and wayward performance, and an AMD beta driver hasn’t fixed the issue for everyone.

A wider fix will, Avalanche have announced, “need a little bit of time”, but they’re using data gleaned from the playerbase in order to “recreate some of these issues and build fixes.”
