Brushing Up: Painters Guild Comes To Steam

Painters Guild [official site] is a charming little management sim where you run a guild of artists. I wrote about it a little while ago thanks to a free demo but it’s out today on Steam so I’m re-mentioning it.

Currently all is not well at the Guild of Pip. My main artist is languishing in a jail cell after brawling because I couldn’t pay his fine leaving my newly recruited trainee to hold the fort and keep a roof over all of our heads. He didn’t do any on-screen brawling. As far as I could tell he was tucked up in bed but the pop-up said otherwise and thus I am in a bit of a pickle.

Space Friends: Star Citizen’s Social Module Blasts Off

NORM!

Star Citizen [official site] released the first iteration of its chatty Social Module a few days ago in Patch 1.2, with several areas for small numbers of players to wander around and chat together, which makes me wonder: isn’t it time to rename the game Star Citizens?

The Social Module was supposed to launch after the sandbox space ‘em up’s FPS aspect Star Marine but, with that still held up, developers Roberts Space Industries have pushed this social space out first. It’s a virtual chatroom, basically. In space!

The Phantom Paint & Silent Hills: Layers Of Fear

You may have noticed that Metal Gear Solid V is happening today and, if you’re anything like me, all of this Kojima talk might bring Silent Hills to mind. The cancelled horror game was to combine the talents and imaginations of Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro, and its “playable teaser”, P.T., caused a heck of a stir when it landed on PS4. It’s gone now, cast into the void of unbeing by Konami. but worry not (or ‘worry a great deal’, I guess) because Layers of Fear [official site] is a splendid replacement. It’s an Early Access horror game that feels polished, complete and is so frightening that when I started playing last night, I had to wait until morning to play more.

Eyebeams, Go! Resident Evil 0 HD’s Wesker Mode

EYEBEAMS!

Resident Evil is super goofy, but in a loveable way – when it’s not taking itself too seriously. A new addition to the upcoming revamp of Resident Evil 0 [official site] looks to be on the knowingly silly side, starring the mutated Albert Wesker zapping zombies with his eyebeams.

Wesker Mode is a separate mode with Bertie larking about with Rebecca Chambers and sorta disarming the tension by casually zipping around at superspeed and exploding monsters with his psychic powers. Come see how adorably daft this is:

Have You Played… Alien Swarm

Have You Played? is an endless stream of game recommendations. One a day, every day of the year, perhaps for all time.

Valve have a game even more forgotten than Ricochet. Despite being only five years old, I bet if I’d asked you to write down all their games you’d have missed off Alien Swarm [official site].

Rocket Jumps And Grappling Hooks In LawBreakers Vid

I lost interest during the announcement of Cliff Bleszinski’s new shooter LawBreakers [official site] when the former Epic chap’s livestreamed reveal-o-rama went into guff about criminals and cops and law-breaking and the future and the moon and… oh, I didn’t care. I closed the stream.

However! Watching its ‘gameplay reveal’ trailer, I discover that the arena FPS has gnarly-looking energy grappling hooks to whip you around levels, rocket jumping, and some other swish gadgets. Aye, I’ll keep an eye on this game all right. Watch this:
