EA are going to court in Belgium to keep loot boxes in FIFA 18 and 19

EA have made a good show of cutting loot boxes in some games like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, but they’re apparently willing to go to court to fight for their presence in FIFA 18 and 19. After the Belgian Gaming Commission declared many kinds of loot box to be (legally speaking) gambling, some studios restricted sales of random virtual rewards in the country. EA opted to disclose the odds on FIFA 19 loot boxes, but decided to ignore the Belgian government’s orders and continue selling packs of random virtual footballers there. According to Dutch papers Nieuwsblad and Metro, this is now a criminal issue, and seems likely to end up in court.
